The conservation, protection and re-
habilitation of biodiversity are core en-
vironmental goals of MYTILINEOS
Group. To this end, we have ensured
that the facilities of our subsidiaries, es-
pecially in raw materials mining,
aluminium production and construc-
tion, are not adjacent to areas pro-
tected by law and to areas of high bio-
diversity value. Thus, there are no sig-
nificant effects that may have an ad-
verse direct or indirect impact on the
integrity of the area where the facili-
ties of our companies are located.
In the Metallurgy sector (aluminium
production), in addition to the estab-
lishment of an initial inventory of the
local flora and fauna, checks are car-
ried out to monitor the quality of the
flora in the wider region, to the extent
that this is introduced into the food
chain. The Company operates a net-
work of 28 stations for static meas-
urements of fluoride levels, located
within a radius of 0 to 12 km around
the ALUMINIUM S.A. plant. In addi-
tion, samplings take place and chem-
ical analyses are carried out to deter-
mine the fluoride content of olive tree
leaves, vine leaves and pine needles
(twice per year), as well as that of
grapes (once per year).
Furthermore, the Group’s mining ac-
tivity for the production of aluminium
may impact on the biodiversity of fau-
na and flora. To mitigate this impact,
Environmental Impact assessments
and rehabilitation plans have been de-
veloped and are carried out for the ar-
eas affected. In more detail:
