METLEN acquires Joule, a software company specialising in the optimisation of renewable energy project management

With this move, the company strengthens its digital capabilities in the management of renewable energy and storage portfolios, while laying the foundations for the development of new energy services.

Athens, Greece / London, United Kingdom – 18 August 2026  METLEN announces the acquisition of Joule, a Greek energy software company, marking another strategic step in the digital transformation of its activities in the representation and optimisation of energy portfolios.

At the core of the acquisition is the jHub platform, an advanced system for the remote monitoring, control and optimisation of renewable energy and storage portfolios. Developed by Joule, with the support of ZEPHIROS ENERGY, the platform enables real-time monitoring of unit operations, more accurate production forecasting, the remote implementation of production curtailment commands, as well as the provision of advanced digital services to producers through an integrated customer portal.

The acquisition materially enhances METLEN’s capabilities in the management and commercial optimisation of renewable energy and storage portfolios, as well as the company’s Aggregator business, one of the largest and most dynamic in the Greek market. The portfolio currently under management comprises approximately 1,450 renewable energy units, with a total installed capacity of 3 GW, covering all major renewable energy technologies. The first two energy storage units, with a total capacity of 378 MW, were also recently added to the portfolio.

At the same time, METLEN’s Aggregator business has also established a presence in other European electricity markets, providing producer representation services in Italy and Romania, while it is in the process of expanding its activities into Bulgaria.

In an environment marked by increased production curtailments and periods of negative pricing, the ability to manage and monitor portfolios in real time is becoming critical. With the integration of jHub, METLEN gains technological autonomy in a critical operational function, strengthening its ability to optimise the operation of its energy portfolios and make more effective use of the capabilities of renewable energy assets.

Additionally, the platform creates significant opportunities for the development of new digital energy services, such as advanced applications for the management of storage systems, solutions for dispatchable renewable energy units, and the commercial management of hybrid portfolios combining renewables and storage. This investment strengthens METLEN’s strategic position as an integrated provider of innovative energy and digital solutions in Greece and internationally.

For producers working with METLEN, this investment marks the transition to an even more advanced service model. Beyond representation in electricity markets, they gain access to a modern digital environment, with full real-time visibility over the operation of their assets, advanced reporting and data analytics tools, as well as the ability to make use of new energy flexibility services.

As per the acquisition agreement, METLEN will leverage the Joule team’s expertise across product development, engineering and go-to-market activities, providing support.
