Resource management and the integration of circular economy principles are key pillars of METLEN's sustainable development strategy. With the aim of rationalising the use of natural resources and minimising its environmental footprint, emphasis is placed on the production of recycled aluminium, which is at the heart of the circular economy. At the same time, METLEN participates in research projects for the exploitation of bauxite residues for the extraction of rare earths. further strengthening its resource-efficient initiatives. In addition, the Company's waste management is based on best practices, promoting the recycling and reuse of materials, with the ultimate goal of gradually transitioning to a circular production model that contributes to sustainable development. According to the 2025 Double Essentiality Assessment, significant impacts related to the above challenge are:

METLEN implements actions that support the transition towards a more circular and resource-efficient production model, with a focus on waste reduction, the utilisation of secondary materials and the enhancement of recycling practices. The Group promotes the use of recycled aluminium and secondary raw materials within the production process, while investing in the development of new circular metallurgy activities and the recovery of valuable materials.
In this context, METLEN operates the EPALME plant for the recycling of aluminium scrap and the production of secondary aluminium, while also developing a new recycling facility for copper and zinc waste and participating in research projects for the recovery of valuable raw materials from bauxite residues.
In 2025, secondary aluminium production reached 56,751 tonnes, recording an increase compared to 2024, as part of the target to produce 100,000 tonnes by 2030.
At the same time, 94.3% of the materials used for the production of secondary aluminium originated from recycled aluminium scrap, while more than 58,000 tonnes of recycled materials were used overall in the production process.
In addition, the Group recovered and utilised more than 176,000 tonnes of non-hazardous waste through recycling and recovery processes, while approximately 73.6 thousand tonnes of bauxite residues and bauxite steriles were supplied to cement industries and other industrial applications as alternative raw materials, further supporting the implementation of circular economy practices.
