Production Process

The stages of the EP.AL.ME. production process: Quality control and processing of aluminium scrap, melting, refining - casting, homogenization - cooling and sawing/bundling. The operation is vertically integrated.

Raw materials

  • Post Production scrap
  • Post Consumer scrap*
  • Small percentage of primary aluminium

*Since 2022, liquid aluminum is systematically exchanged between Aluminum of Greece (AtE) and EP.AL.ME. (primary aluminium by AoG / recycled by EP.AL.ME.)

Melting

EP.AL.ME. operates the following melting furnaces:

  • Reverberatory furnace with a capacity of 20mt with the main task of melting high purity aluminum scrap.

  • Twin-chamber furnace with a capacity of 30mt with the main task of melting aluminum scrap with organic content.

  • Two Rotary furnaces with a capacity of 3 & 6.5 m³ respectively with the main task of processing drosses for aluminium recovery.

Refinement - Casting

In the refining and casting stage, cast alloys are added into the liquid aluminium before casting. Using Wagstaff Billet Casting Systems with AirSlip Casting Technology & Rapid Fill liquid metal distribution, EPALME is producing high-quality aluminum billets with exceptionally smooth surface and top grain structure uniformity.

Homogenization - Cooling

EP.AL.ME. is operating 2 batch homogenization furnaces (heat treatment) to eliminate chemical segregation and residual stresses that occur during rapid solidification in the casting phase.

Sawing-Packaging

The billets both ends are cut & bundled ready for transport to customers.

The final products are billets with the following characteristics:

Diameter: Φ105/120/127/140/152/178/203 mm

Alloys: 6060 / 6063 / 6082 / 6005 & 6106
