The European Metals Sector Unveils its New Identity

Today, the European metals sector unveiled its new brand identity at a high-level gathering in Brussels. President Evangelos Mytilineos, Executive Chairman of METLEN, announced that the sector’s representative body would now be called European Metals, after almost 40 years of existence as Eurometaux.

Specifically, he stated: “European metals are central to Europe’s future. They underpin the energy transition, the digital transition, and Europe’s security. They are in grids and batteries, renewables and data centres, defence systems, buildings, and mobility. Europe cannot claim leadership in clean technologies while importing the materials and exporting the jobs. That is why today matters. Our transition to European Metals reflects a deeper evolution - an industry that understands the world has changed and is ready to adapt; committed to competitiveness, and resilience, not as slogans but as operating principles.”

European Metals has existed since 1957 in various guises, most recently as Eurometaux since 1988. The new brand reflects the association’s evolution, strengthening its role as a key interlocutor with European institutions in supporting heavy industries, enhancing competitiveness and addressing energy cost challenges across the European Union, while positioning the association in a more international environment amid growing reliance on raw materials from markets outside Europe and increasing global economic tensions.

President Mytilineos added: “We are proud of our legacy. We invest. We innovate. We decarbonise. We compete globally. When the world changes, serious industries do not stand still — they evolve!”
