METLEN achieves another milestone for the FDI program

  • Franco-Greek cooperation around front-line frigates “Frégate de Défense et d'Intervention” (FDI)

Athens, Greece / London, United Kingdom – February 2, 2026 Last December, METLEN, a Greek global industrial and energy company, successfully  delivered to Naval Group Lorient shipyard, on schedule, two complex platform systems for Frégate de Défense et d'Intervention (FDI), encompassing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics equipment. Both systems are now under mounting on the second FDI frigate for French navy. This major new milestone is the result of strong and long-term cooperation between Naval Group and Greek industries. This achievement confirms METLEN’s ability to meet the highest standards of French naval programs and positions the company as a trusted industrial partner for France’s defense ecosystem.

This delivery follows the successful Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) campaign which took place the 14th October 2025 at METLEN premises of Volos. At Naval Group’s request, METLEN demonstrated its industrial agility by accelerating delivery to meet the shipyard’s operational expectations. Working together since 2023, METLEN is, for Naval Group, one of the key Hellenic industrial partners involved in an ambitious Hellenic industrial cooperation plan (HIP), supporting Naval Group’s long-term industrial strategy for both the French and for the FDI for Hellenic Navy program. Already 70 Hellenic companies have been involved by Naval Group in the HIP since 2022 enabling the development of high value industrial activity in Greece. With the FDI HN4, Naval Group is committed to expanding the integration of Greek companies into its international industrial strategy.

First-rank frigate, the FDI has proven capabilities in all areas of combat (anti-aircraft, anti-submarine, anti-surface and asymmetric). Scalable and versatile, it combines all the functions needed to manage, either independently or as part of a fleet, current and emerging threats such as latest-generation submarines, supersonic missiles, cyberattacks, and multifaceted asymmetric threats. Its compact layout and unique design make it perfectly suited to different environments and rough seas around the world.

Benoît Chapalain, CEO of Naval Group Hellas: “After having delivered a 1st shipset one year ago, which has since been mounted on FDI HN Formion, and with this 2nd shipset arrived in Lorient, METLEN M Technologies has strongly demonstrated its status of fully reliable partner within Naval Group supply chain. Through this success, for which the total commitment of METLEN team has been much appreciated, Naval Group is now actively exploring new areas of cooperation with METLEN, for FDI frigates first, but also other Naval Group programs.”

Vasilis Tsiamis, Chief Executive Director of METLEN’s M Technologies:With this delivery, M Technologies is proud of continuing the fruitful cooperation with Naval Group and is already preparing the assembly of the 3rd shipset. Through our cooperation with Naval Group since 2023 we are proud to contribute to the success of French naval programs and to build a long-term industrial partnership with France, based on performance, trust and shared technological ambition”.
