METLEN has achieved First Fire at the 560 MW CCGT Grudziądz Power Plant in Poland, being developed for CCGT Grudziądz LLC, a subsidiary of Energa, part of ORLEN Group.
First Fire, the successful initial ignition of the gas turbine, is a major milestone marking the beginning of the final commissioning phase of the plant, that will lead to commercial operation. It was safely completed under controlled conditions, in the presence of ORLEN’s top management, reflecting the importance of the achievement for all project stakeholders. This milestone was then followed by the synchronisation of the generator with the Polish National Power System.
Grudziądz CCGT is one of the largest power plants in Poland, designed to supply electricity to up to 1 million households and contribute significantly to the country’s decarbonisation and energy security.
This highly flexible CCGT unit ensures that the new plant will work effectively alongside renewable energy sources, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions without the risk of disrupting electricity supply to consumers.
The construction of the project involved a total of nearly 1,000 people working on site at the peak of activity. To date, more than 33,000 m3 of concrete have been placed, alongside 4,200 tonnes of reinforcement steel, 6,500 tonnes of structural steel, 500 tonnes of piping and nearly 900 kilometres of cabling. Delivering a facility of this scale requires precision, technical expertise and close cooperation across all disciplines.
For METLEN, the achievement reflects the Company’s proven capability in executing large-scale energy infrastructure safely and responsibly. METLEN is grateful to our consortium partner Siemens Energy and to CCGT Grudziądz LLC for the collaboration towards delivering a power plant that will support Poland’s energy system for years to come.
